Low carb is kinda ambiguous, as it means different things to different people and diets. We settled on 30 grams or less based on a relatively low 100 grams per day but not any prescribed diet in particular.
If you are simply cutting carbs in general, this guideline gives you 30 grams for each meal plus a little extra for the day. Cutting carbs is hard, especially if you love LOVE pasta and potatoes and pastries. But truly 30 grams per meal is reasonable and quite doable.
And that's why we chose <30 to define low carb here.
